Our Story
Her Side
June 20, 2016
It was a warm summer evening in Rota, Spain. Looking for something to do, I reached out to a friend who mentioned he was heading to dinner with a few coworkers. I decided to join and met the group in downtown El Puerto at a cozy spot called Antojito Tapas (now permanently closed).
Sean was part of the group, sitting at the opposite end of the table. We struck up a conversation, and he mentioned he was heading to Munich that Friday. On a whim, I asked if I could tag along—and to my surprise, he said yes! Little did he know I was serious. The very next day, I booked my flight. Shortly after, Sean messaged me on Facebook, raving about a place called “The Tent Hostel,” saying, “It’s supposed to be wicked cool!”
That Friday, we drove to Seville, caught a flight to Munich, and checked into The Tent Hostel—which turned out to be a giant circus-style tent filled with bunk beds. I took the top bunk, Sean the bottom.
The next 36 hours in Munich sealed the beginning of an unforgettable friendship that lasted for years.
Fast forward to 2020…
After returning to the U.S. from Japan, Sean eventually convinced me to visit him in Ithaca, New York, where he was finishing his final Navy tour as an NROTC instructor at Cornell. He showed me around town, gave me a tour of campus, and we even rented kayaks—only to get caught in a sudden downpour.
That weekend sparked something new. We began making trips between Philly and Ithaca, started dating, and well…the rest is history.
His Side
We met and I fell in love immediately.
The Engagement
June 30, 2024
Eight years after they first met, Sean and Jocelyn returned to Rota, Spain, for a summer vacation. What Jocelyn didn’t know was that Sean had something special planned. After an eventful journey, they finally arrived in the town where it all began—ready to reminisce.
One evening, just before sunset, they took a walk along the Costilla Promenade. As they reached the well-known corner painted with the words “BÉSAME EN ESTA ESQUINA” ("Kiss Me on This Corner"), Sean suggested they take a photo. He set up his phone and they smiled for the camera.
As Sean fiddled with the phone to try and take a second shot, he accidentally snapped another photo instead of recording a video. He pointed toward the ocean and told Jocelyn to look. Slightly suspicious of what trick he might be up to, she turned—only to find Sean down on one knee, asking her to marry him.
